Mrs. Conaway from Baltimore MD is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need reading books and practice cards for math because we currently have none in our math library.

Do you ever remember reading stories in math that connected to the skills your teacher was teaching. When I was younger, I never knew that math and reading connected because we never read stories in math. It was all calculations. It's time to put literacy back in math.
I have two classes of 3rd graders.
There are 31 students in one class and 32 in the other class. Last year, I taught all subjects and this year I'm teaching math, science, social studies, and health. We have no math books for our math library. We have close to 300 students in our school and no one ever thought that literacy in math was important. That's why the school never purchased reading books for math. Our school is a Title I school and 98% of our students receive free lunch.
I am requesting math reading books for my students because for years, reading has been separated from math. I am trying to put literacy back in to math. With the resources I am requesting, I will be able to help the children see that there is math in everything, including reading. I want them to have fun while reading and connecting the stories to math concepts.
My project is very important to me because I never knew of the importance of infusing literature into math.
Now that I am the only math teacher our 63 third graders will have, I have been able to focus on just math. Children need a print-rich environment no matter what the subject mater is and they will definitely get this once I am able to fortify my library with exciting math books geared towards the concepts that I teach.
