My 7th grade students are making short work of the limited books available in our developing math library. Could you imagine looking for an interesting book only to find that you have read everything available to you or that nothing captivates you?
My South Brooklyn 7th Graders inspire me in that they LOVE TO READ, ALL OF THE TIME!
I have teamed up with our literacy teacher in trying to support their amazing reading habits in math class - however our math library is just developing. As I work in a high poverty school basic supplies are often difficult to come by. My students often visit bookstores but can only daydream about the books that they would love to have available to them. Your support would make my students' year and foster their development of math fluency.
My Project
The 12 books in this selection will bolster our library with books that use math and logic in interesting and relatable fashions. Exploring math in an manner that excites students and piques their interest is a way to not only turn students on to the beauty of mathematics, but also have them further advocate for their educations in that they will be reading books in which they are interested! FASHION, DESIGN, ARCHITECTURE, ALGEBRA! These are what we wish to explore through reading! My students are the designers, architects, artists, and critical thinkers of tomorrow!
Your generosity will bring this library to life!
I would love for my students to know that there is an exciting way to learn most anything - among the best ways being to find a book that speaks to you, identify with the ideas of another person, and enhance your reading and math skills at the same time.
