"If they can't learn the way we teach, then we teach the way they learn."-Ivar Lovass. Kids with disabilities learn in a variety of ways and hands-on, interactive games are a sure way to ensure they are engaged and interested!
My school is a Title I school with students that have grown up in a very rural area with a high poverty rate.
I serve students in Kindergarten through 3rd with varying types of disabilities. While I do my best to provide for my students with printable materials and games, most are missing pieces or have been handed down since the 80s! My kiddos love playing and they learn so much better when they are having fun without worksheets in front of them. They are bright, happy children who have such potential to learn and make progress despite their limitations. I want to make learning fun for them so they continue to enjoy coming to work with me.
My Project
While I serve students in 4 grade levels, they are all learning at their own rate and level and would all love the games I have requested for them. I meet with my students throughout the day and all would be happy to have a break in the routine of sitting at their desk doing pencil and paper as they play a fun learning game with me and their peers. I would be able to provide some movement, laughter and learning all at the same time!
My students with disabilities struggle more than their peers to learn and function in their regular education classrooms.
I work hard to find them opportunities to feel successful and happy to encourage and motivate them to continue to work hard. Games are such an easy way for me to do this while they don't even realize they are learning and practicing skills! Your donations will help my classroom grow into a happy, hands-on learning environment!
