Just like food has to be prepared to eat...brains have to be prepared to learn! My students need to move to learn!
Our school consists of over 800 students in preschool through fifth grade.
Over half of our population is considered low income and qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Our school represents a wide range of cultures including African American, American Indian, Hawaiian, Hispanic, Cuban, Asian and more. Many students receive English Language Learning services, as their native language is not English. Our staff works hard to support all of our students and provide them with a quality education despite their many hardships. My students range from kindergarten to second grade. All of my students have learning difficulties, social/emotional problems, live in poverty, and qualify for free lunch.
My Project
Research shows that the brain is attracted to novelty and is preprogrammed to notice differences. Therefore, using creative and innovative strategies that infuse movement into instruction allows the brain to stay connected for longer periods of time. With these movement DVD's and interactive software games, my students will be able to move while learning their letter names and sounds, sequencing skills, and so much more! Kids absolutely love working on the smartboard. These games will keep them energized, motivated, and moving while they learn!
My students do not work well with boring paper and pencil seat activities.
My kids need opportunities to move! We need these DVDs for educational brain break opportunities. We also need to move to learn with the Smartboard games!
