Do remember taking a test and needing it read to you? How about using the computer and not being able to hear it? My students have a computer center to use to have tests read to them, and online computer programs for their direct instruction reading and math groups, but no headphones to hear with.
I have a special education resource room were I help assists students with their reading and math goals.
The programs that I use have an online program to go along with the work books. We are a Title 1 school with limited funding in NC. In my computer center we need headphones, mouse pads, and a good surge protector. Without these my students will loose out on part of the program that enhances their reading and math skills. The students love these programs and it makes learning reading and math fun.
My Project
The students will work on programs to enhance their reading and math that is tied into their curriculum. We also have a program were we can scan their tests into the computer and it will read it to them. This will assist teachers in being able to send student to me to have tests read freeing them up to help other students in their room who don't need it read.
Having headphones, mouse pads, and a good surge protector will help make sure the students will be able to benefit from these online resources, and testing accommodations in my room.
The students really enjoy time using these programs and it does help improve their reading and math skills they need to pass the end of grade test. Without them the use of the computer will be limited to things they do not need to hear. Our class would really benefit from these necessary computer items.
