We Need to Get to the Point!

My students need to have a reliable heavy duty pencil sharpener.

Hooray! This project is fully funded

I am a third grade teacher of 26, most eager to learn, children. In spite of the fact that we are a Title I school, with a poverty level of 86%, our culturally diverse population holds education in high regard. As a result, our children, despite language and cultural challenges, show academic growth and excellence each year. Each summer in the anticipation of doing a lot of writing, I stock up on pencils for the children. I look for specials and I will from store to store, ensuring that there is no shortage of pencils. Before the summer is finished my house looks like a pencil factory. However, pencils aren't the problem. I like my students to come in daily to a fresh supply of sharpened pencils. It is inspiring and motivating to our young writers, to allow them to be ready to spring into action as they generate ideas. Yes... I do tell the children they need to come in with sharpened pencils everyday. I even bought each child a pencil sharpener (also, purchased on sale, over the summer). None-the-less, sharpened pencils continue to be a problem, one that, hopefully you might help me to easily remedy. If I had a reliable and sturdy electric sharpener, it would solve our problem. I buy sharpener after sharpener and they do not last. It is absolutely MADDENING, not to have a pencil with a point available. You would be doing an incredibly wonderful thing by donating a good commercial pencil sharpener. Please, on behalf of our future writers of tomorrow, help us to keep on writing. Thank you!
