My students need 40 magazines to make the most of the common core in their Literacy block. As we have no solid materials for this class, this would be perfect.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Literacy class is boring!!!!! Don't you remember having to read uninteresting stories that have no footing in the real world. Scholastic magazines have fun and informative articles that interest kids beyond the boring text.
These guys are in a Title 1, inner city school.
The resources are very limited and I am scrambling to give the students the resources they need for ELA. My literacy class has no extra resources to make it fun so behavior is becoming a problem. Please help me to give them something to look forward to at the end of the day.
My Project
Scope Magazine from Scholastic is a great tool to get kids interested in reading. It has articles and stories relevant to today's issues. It give kids the opportunity to visit other countries, read about interesting people, and learn about current events and issues. Scholastic has on line resources such as video, audio and assessments to make the lessons more interesting and (essential teacher word here) allows for differentiation in instruction.
What better way to get a child to read than to give them something interesting and relevant to current events?
People say these kids don't deserve to have a special resource such as this.
I want to prove them wrong! These kids need to see that someone wants them to enjoy school and have fun learning.
