Help me give my students the best experience with our volleyball unit. Our girls are new to this activity and we want it to go well for them. This is a lifetime sport that would benefit our kids.
My students come from a very rural area of Arkansas and many do not have the ability to participate in extra-curricular activities because of the financial strain placed on their family. Our students are often required to purchase the necessary equipment to participate and they simply cannot afford it. We have fundraising activities, however, because our area is rural and small, the few businesses we have are asked repeatedly to contribute to our cause. I believe that so much can be learned through participation in extracurricular activities-leadership, communication, teamwork, as well as how to handle disappointment and success. Our students are full of potential if we can provide the opportunity for them to see themselves in a positive, successful situation.
We have a summer program called The GIRLS Project (gaining independence, responsibility, leadership and success) that could benefit greatly from DonorsChoose.
This program is designed to empower the young girls of our community to see that they can be anything they want to be in this world. This program is currently surviving on volunteer personnel and donations. We hope to find a means to provide the best experience possible for these young ladies.
My Project
Our students will learn the importance of organization and proper ways to run a program. Our hope is to develop a love of sports and teamwork within our school and summer program by having the proper equipment to allow us to do that. Our girls have never had the opportunity to participate in a real, well-organized program like this and we hope to show them that this sport is so very enjoyable and can be participated in for an entire lifetime. This is an activity that can be played in a variety of settings as well as a variety of groups.
