My students need 1 heavy-duty pencil sharpener, 2 SmartBoard activities, 1 set of Motor Skills Boards, 2 sets of Journals, 2 packs of pencil grips, 1 writing center, and 1 roll of writing paper.
In first grade, students really grasp the idea of expression through words. We need supplies for our writing.
My first graders live in a small, rural town in southwestern Missouri.
Many of them qualify for free and reduced lunch and face many challenges outside of school. However, my students arrive at school each morning with a smile on their face and the desire to soak up knowledge!
My Project
I am requesting a tabletop writing center to organize all of our writing materials. This will allow us to keep all of these supplies in one place so they are easily accessible. I am also requesting a heavy-duty pencil sharpener. We have gone through many pencil sharpeners in the last few years, and we really need a tough one! I am requesting several other writing materials, such as 1 set of daily journals, 1 set of writing motor skill boards, and 2 packs of pencil grips. I have also included 2 SmartBoard games that will help build vocabulary and phonics skills.
Can you imagine what life would be like if we didn't have the skills to communicate through writing?
For one thing, I would have been able to write up this project proposal! My first graders come in without written communication skills, and the progress they make in 9 months is really amazing. The materials in this project will make that transformation even more amazing!
