Help me give my students a small teaching easel with storage and supply caddies for organization, and a large dry erase notebook page so I can show true to life examples of expectations.
I am moving from first to third grade next year and we are looking at departmentalizing, which will require a higher level of organization on my part in order to accommodate more students. Our school is in a rural Northeastern Oklahoma community with a high poverty rate. My students come from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds and we are home to nine tribal nations. No matter their culture or home situations though, they come in ready to learn! The rule is, you can't enter our room without a smile, and most students are more than happy to oblige!
I want my students to believe in themselves, to know that they can do anything and, more than anything, know that they are loved and someone believes in them.
I also want them to have the tools and materials needed to make this a reality. We are setting them up for success by meeting needs of all kinds for each student.
My Project
The storage and organization caddies will help me stay on top of things for my students as well as help them be responsible for their own supplies. By having my own teacher caddy, I will always have small group tools readily available so our time will be spent learning, not searching for supplies. Each student group will have a caddy for their personal supplies also. These caddies will greatly increase efficiency.
The tabletop easel will make small-group instruction a breeze!
Having everything together in one place will help personalize instruction better since I will be able to prep for differentiated student groups ahead of time.
As far as whole group instruction is concerned, the large dry erase notebook paper page will enable me to show the class specific writing examples, in both handwriting and grammar practice.
