My school is an elementary school, and my students are first graders.
61% of our students are economically disadvantaged. The school provides a safe, encouraging, and positive environment for all students. The students are told, that it's okay not to know something, but it's not okay not to try. My students come to school every day ready to learn. I want to make sure that every student has the resources in the classroom to make them a successful student.
My Project
My first-grade students have an incredible drive to write, but they need the materials to achieve this. Writing is integrated into every subject throughout the day. My students write during math, phonics, writing, and even reading time. My students would be even more successful with their own whiteboards and markers. Whiteboards and markers allow them to make mistakes and correct and learn from their mistakes.
The desire to write grows through writing.
First graders use a variety of materials to write. We need resources such as individual whiteboards, whiteboard markers, erasers, and highlighters. I also have requested a large magnetic handwriting paper so I can model for my students how to write. These materials will make a big difference in how my students achieve their writing goals. Whiteboards are also great tools during math instruction where I'm able to continuously monitor student work and adjust my instruction during real time to meet my student's needs.
