Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I have 380 students that I work with. They are a diverse group of students who attend a Public Title 1 school near a major military base. 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. We are also classified as a CEP school because of this designation. My students love jamming and learning about music. My students are resilient, hard working and enjoy learning songs from different genres. To many of my students music is an escape from the hardships that they experience. Music has given my students a voice to build upon their many talents and it's my goal to create an environment that supports them and allow them to express themselves creatively. I am so honored to be the music teacher of such a wonderful group as we learn and jam together each day.

My Project

I'm the music teacher at an amazing public title 1 school. Sadly, the musical instruments that are available to my students are broken or in poor condition. Currently, I am working to build up the music program at my school. My students are bright and talented but all we have currently are a few hand instruments, tambourines and a set of drums. The Yamaha keyboard that I am requested will allow me to play music to discuss rhythm, beats, tones for my students to sing and warm their voices up to each day.

I would also like to use this keyboard for the various musical programs that we have at school each year.

This keyboard will update and provide additional resources and musical instruments to use during daily music class. To my future donors please help me get a keyboard to build up the musical program at my school. Music is a universal language that helps build students up and support them during their general education classes.
