Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am a first grade teacher in rural Mississippi. I have taught higher grades but for the last five years I have found a home and grown to love early childhood education. This year I have a classroom full of 25 boys and girls that love to read and are eager to learn. We are in desperate need of technology and new books for our classroom library. I am beyond thankful for Donors Choose and the opportunities they provide for helping my students.

My Project

Having two tablets in my classroom will be very beneficial. I would like to use them during my small reading group and center time each day. Students will use these independently in a reading center to read or do another activity to help them excel as readers. It is extremely important for my students to be exposed to technology. When they reach the third grade in Mississippi they are required to pass a test that is taken on the computer in order to move on to the fourth grade. It is important to expose them to technology now so that they will be prepared for testing in higher grades.
