Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Algebra can be the make it or break it mathematics class for middle school students. Many of our students struggle with Algebraic concepts because they are not able to get personalized attention due to overcrowded classrooms. There are many new applications and websites that could help students make rapid progress, if only they had the technology resources to access them. Having iPods can make the difference.
The students in my classes have a thirst for knowledge but are limited technologically by their high poverty background.
They show a heightened interest in mathematics when computers and iPods are involved. Budget cuts have hit our school hard these past few years and the students are suffering because of it. They want the opportunity to improve their math scores. They just need someone to help them out.
My Project
Many students have made a dramatic improvement in reading because of the Read 180 program and its use of computers for reading practice. We would like to create a math center that models itself after Read 180. Students will be able to use apps to practice the concepts they are learning in a creative and interactive way. They will also be able to further their understanding of difficult concepts using interactive websites like Khan Academy and Brain Pop. These technological mediums have been proven to make a difference for students academically. Your generous contribution can bridge the gap for these students.
These students have no time to waste.
Budgets have been slashed, and our students are suffering. They are falling behind simply because they do not have access to the tools necessary to make the improvements like other schools. The students have the desire to learn and advance. Their English scores have shown as much. Now is the time for their mathematics scores to take off as well. You can be a part of that change.
