"You can't start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one." My students come to me with a history of not being able to meet the standards for their grade level. We want to reach these students using different strategies and technology to help them meet their goals.
This is our first year as a K-5 charter school.
I have students at all grade levels scheduled to come to the special education resource classroom throughout the day. They are full of energy and eager to learn. We are in modular units and are in desperate need for technology. We will be at our current location for about three years or so and hope to move to another facility to incorporate grades K-8. When that happens, this technology will be portable and moved to the new location.
Any website or document on a flash drive becomes interactive on the whiteboard with use of MimioTeach. Students are engaged during instruction and very involved in the learning process. Students will be able to spell cvc words, solve math problems, and even highlight text on the whiteboard to find answers to reading comprehension questions by using a stylus pen on the board to select their answers. MimioTeach also has the capability for teachers to create lesson using their technology. There is also a free website where teachers can access lessons already created by other teachers as well as share what they have created. It allows learning to be kinesthetic as students use a variety of senses as they learn.
For the special education students, most have been taught using traditional methods of instruction and did not gain the knowledge to meet grade level expectations.
In the resource classroom, concepts must be presented in various ways to reach the needs of each student. MimioTeach will enhance learning for these students and can be used to meet their individual goals as they strive for academic success.
