Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a classroom in the lower socio-economic region of South Sacramento, CA. We are so dedicated to each other and learning. In all the turmoil that is around us right now, I want to give my students the opportunity to channel their energy into learning through the use of technology ESPECIALLY in mathematics.
These students need equal access to technology as students do in other school districts.
Please help provide! We only have computers one hour 3 times a week! Through DonorsChoose we have added 10 Samsung Galaxy Tablets and three Samsung Google Chrome books, and I feel we need a couple more.
My Project
We are a classroom in a Title One school in South Sacramento, CA and we are amazing! Every day we do the best we can with what we have access to. The reality is there isn't funding for much!
We need access to technology on various platforms, especially Samsung Google Chromebooks!
The access to daily technology helps level the playing field. At this time we only have a few hours a week, it is not nearly enough!
As an instructor I have been relying on Donorchoose to help build a classroom that provides a rich technology experience in academics, especially math. With the Samsung Google Chromebooks, we can utilize various digital math tools & manipulatives to strengthen our ability to create mathematical models that support our learning. But that is not all, we record screencasts, adding the idea of an authentic audience provides my students' the platform to justify reasoning, therefore, strengthening explanations and modeling. (CCSS Standards for Mathematical Process)
Our class is all about collaboration and working together. Learning to do this on a digital platform sets the foundation that will carry them for a lifetime!
