Learning should be a joy for every child, not just a privilege for the students who are in wealthier districts! I happily teach in an urban city school district. There are large proportions of English Language Learners, students who receive special education services, and all students in my school receive free school breakfast and lunch.
My students come from a diverse variety of backgrounds, some with special education needs, and others with language barriers.
Some have parental support while others are being raised by a single parents. No matter where they live or what family they come from, every single one of my students is full of life, love, and enthusiasm.
I interact with parents via daily messaging and communicate frequently to ensure that both the home and myself work together to help the child succeed. My mission is to be a positive force to bring the power of "I CAN" to my classroom, and to encourage the students to think critically, outside-the-box to become innovative leaders in their future endeavors.
My Project
I teach in an urban city school district. My students have switched from having desks to tables in order to accommodate more space in our classroom. Now, we have much more space; however, the students must go to separate locations for their materials, such as dictionaries, math journals, folders, pencil and crayon boxes.
These chair pockets will allow students to easily access their materials quickly, and the ability to have all of their supplies readily available, so they can get right to work!
I have tried to ask a friend to sew chair pockets for the classroom, but these are not as durable, and several have ended up with ripped seams or have become torn during daily use. I have also tried using a variety of different baskets and plastic drawers, as well as having 'table captains' to pass out the supplies. However, these areas often become neglected, and it takes much more time for students to get their specific items rather than just having it at hand, ready to go.
