Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing, creative, unique individuals that understand hard work and determination can bring them unique opportunities and success. Every student at our school leaves our school being able to perform on at least one musical instrument and receiving a well rounded, hands on musical training. Our students are given the opportunity to participate in Bands, Choir, Orchestras, and Guitar Ensembles outside of the school day. These groups have advanced and succeeded competing at the District and State level, in which every ensemble received a Superior Rating for their performances (being the first in Chicago Public School history to do so).
My Project
These music stands will change the way we currently learn and read music throughout the school day. Currently, we have extremely old music stands (only 5-6 that are fully functioning) that are consistently falling apart and the majority of them are no longer functional. At the moment, many students (4-5 at a time) must read music from a single music stand and struggle to see the page. When students find a music stand that is able to stand up, most of them have tops that fall off when they try to adjust the height of the stand. This resource will create a safe and stable learning tool for all students to use everyday, a music stand in music class is like a desk in English, a required tool.
