This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My kindergarten students come in with a wide range of knowledge. Some have been to preschool, and some have never stepped foot inside a classroom. They come from various social and economical backgrounds. Many of our students are homeless. All of the students are on free or reduced price lunch, and for some, school is their safe haven.
The school relies on partners to help fund the food and clothing pantry and on outside help to donate supplies throughout the year.
These donations help our students' families live month to month. For some of the students, the meals they get at school are the only meals they eat.
My classroom is a place the students feel safe and comfortable to be themselves. We are a family.
My Project
Flexible seating enhances the classroom environment. Donations to this project for balance ball chairs, Wobble Chairs and stability discs will help students have a choice when selecting the seat they feel most comfortable using.
The flexible seating will allow students to fidget and move quietly to reduce interruptions during instruction time.
Being able to move around will help keep them focused, and this kind of movement is age-appropriate for younger children.
I chose these specific types of "seats" because my coworker uses them, and I've seen how they have enhanced her learning environment. Her students enjoy picking their own seat, and doing so helps reduce the noise caused by wiggling in a traditional chair.
