Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The student population at my school is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. Over 80% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language. I see about a thousand students every week, from kindergarten to grade five.
My school is located in one of the poorest areas of the state.
Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. All of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch, and some of them even go home without food on the weekends.
My Project
My students need some art supplies to create their masterpieces! We need some silicone baking cups in order to store our colors for our paints. We need chalk for our upcoming glue resists and oil pastels to create an upcoming landscape project focusing on perspective and blending. Students blend and mix materials they never thought about mixing. Help us give color to these new supplies to spark new ideas.
I currently have no budget this year for having almost 1,000 students.
Art is an area that is cut first, and often the deepest. Students who take art become more creative in their other classes and often do better in them as well. Thank you for taking considering my project.
