Mrs. Perez from Dallas TX is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students picture books that represent them. Right now, we have zero books that depict African-American children, but all of my students are African-American.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My littles are pure perfection and I tell them that every day. Though 100% of my students live below the poverty level and the first half of their school year has been rocky, each of my students love to come to school, love to learn, and have big dreams.
"Ms. New Teacher, will you be our teacher forever?" Since they've had two other teachers roll in and out of their class in only 68 days, it's not surprising that they asked me this question on my first day last month.
We all know that children raised in poverty have some cards stacked against them. We all know that having three different teachers in 68 days can't be ideal for 5 and 6 year olds. Please help me create the supportive environment they need to focus on building the foundation of their future education. They are worth our help.
Since we're an "overflow class," the school didn't budget supplies for us. Our class was given some books that the ISS (in-school suspension) classroom didn't want, but that's it.
It concerns me that out of those few books we were given, not one of them depicts an African-American child, but all of my students are African-American.
I remember what it felt like to never see myself depicted in the wonderful books my teachers read. There are so many more options now and I want my students to see themselves in the beauty of the world around them.
Please help us grow our classroom library. There's nothing like getting lost in a good picture book and my students deserve that!
