My 4th grade classroom is full of diverse learners who are eager to learn. Our school is in a high poverty area of New York. My classroom consists of 20-23 students who learn in many different ways. I have general education students, special needs, and English Language Learners in my classroom.
I try my best to provide all the resources I can to ensure that all our students are successful.
My students work together to help each other and I encourage them to be a family. They are curious, creative, energetic, and ready to learn new topics.
My Project
I have requested several copies of books on particular reading levels. I have students in my classroom who are reading a few levels below the rest of the class. They have individualized education plans and struggle with reading. I do not have many books for them to read together. I would like them to form a book club so they can share their ideas with each other.
When children talk about the books they are reading they begin to understand the books better.
I will guide their discussions and have them think about the plot of the story. Talking about characters, setting, problems and solutions will help them advance reading levels.
