My Students

I teach preschool for a public school in Michigan. This is my second year teaching in Taylor Public Schools. Our preschool has a Highscope curriculum and we are a GSRP program which means we are state-funded. I do not get a classroom stipend to spend on items for the classroom each year. These children qualify for the GSRP preschool because they have factors that deem them to be at risk for success. These children have very stressful lives at home and need their classroom to be a safe, warm and friendly place to come learn and play.

My Project

My students are working on building up their fine motor skills. We use our fine motor skills every day for writing, stacking blocks and even zipping coats. To encourage the children to keep building up the muscles in their hands I need to keep changing the materials in the classroom to keep them interested. In our sensory table have only been able to put water in it because that's the only item I have to fill it up with. I looked into buying sand but I was shocked by how expensive it was. I cannot afford to provide the fun materials needed to keep the students engaged on building their fine motor skills. I hope with your help my students will be able to experience something new in our sensory table.
