My Project

I am the teacher to 18 wonderful kindergarten students in rural Iowa! 20% of my students receive special education services and/or speech services.

Many of my students have experienced trauma in their lives.

Despite many of their difficulties at home, they are eager to come to school and learn each day. Integrating sensory items and time into our classroom daily is imperative in order to help my students regulate their feelings and emotions.

These sensory items (putty, sand, and dough) will help students calm and regulate themselves so they can be prepared for learning and interacting with others. Some of my students struggle to cope with the world around them and are distressed by loud noises and bright lights. These sensory items can provide a low-stress, fun environment to helps students work through their emotions.
