Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach K-4 music at an elementary school in Texas. Our school is high poverty with approximately 85% free and reduced lunch. For many of our students, school is the safest cleanest place they go all day. Our students are also poor in experiences and we make a special effort to provide enriching experiences and activities.

Our students love moving to music. Dancing, formal expression and creative movement are among the many varied activities we use for movement. Our colored scarves provide a hook for the children's interest. Our scarves are approximately 10 years old and are torn and in disrepair.

We need new scarves, at least a class set and 2 of the larger canopy scarves for classroom movement activities. This way we can use our old set for practice and the new ones for performance. This will help the resources last longer.

You will make it possible for our inner city students to have many varied experiences with movement. Our scarves are old, in disrepair, and we have no budget to replace them. Please help us to continue offering dance and movement instruction to our students; they desperately need it!
