My fifth graders are kind, hilarious, incredible people, with a hunger for knowledge. These students come from near and far, and in 4 short years, have taught me more than I could have imagined!
I begin each day with a hug, handshake, or high-five from around 40 ten-year-olds.
My class is multicultural and extremely diverse. We speak 4 languages total, and have family from all over the world! These students come in with stories, questions, and experiences that have given me the gift of laughter taught me empathy and sharpened my wit. I am as enriched by them as they will ever be by my teaching.
My Project
My students work really hard each day, and missing school is heartbreaking for them. (I promise!) Attendance is so important, and student success is majorly impacted by how many days they are present in the classroom. We work in close quarters, and have dynamic, shifting groups all day. So, when someone gets sick, EVERYONE gets sick.
My students have challenged me to help them end this cycle.
THEY proposed this project, and THEY suggested these supplies! We need hand sanitizer, hand soap, tissues, and cleaning wipes for our desks. We also need storage shelves for students to have easy access to them.
"If we have things like wipes to wipe our desks down during the day, then germs cant hop from person to person!" says a homeroom student.
These kids are so motivated, and are eager to show ownership for their classroom. I am so happy to oblige them, and bring generous donors together to help keep them healthy!
