My students are curious, determined young people who come to school each day excited to learn all they can. They love to be the captains of their own learning, and they dive deep into learning with enthusiasm.
They are brilliant mathematicians, readers, scientists, writers, and scholars.
As fifth graders, they know that younger students view them as the leaders of the school. They do their best to model safe, responsible, and respectful behavior - the three pillars of our school community. Every day is a joyful learning adventure in our classroom!
Nonfiction reading is a critically important component of every student's (and adult's!) reading life. Nonfiction reading does the big work of connecting us to the world around us by informing us of world events, and it also does the intricate work of teaching us how to build a piece of IKEA furniture. It comes in all different forms, and it's vital that my students learn to be voracious nonfiction readers!
My students need high-interest nonfiction books to help support their learning.
The wonderful thing about nonfiction reading is that it not only helps them become stronger readers, it helps them learn about the topics they care about. The books I have chosen for this project help support my students' interests in animals, space, historical figures, and more. Please help my students grow with nonfiction!
