My students are an awesome group of energetic kids who want to learn!
My fantastic second graders are from a low-income community, where over 80% of students receive free or reduced-rate lunch.
Almost 70% of them speak a language at home that is not English. My students are engaged and want to learn about everything. We need non-fiction books to help us learn. We love reading everything and anything. Non-fiction books would be a great addition to our classroom library.
I can't wait to dive into our non-fiction writing unit. In order to prepare for this unit of study, I read every non-fiction book I can find at my students' level. Finding these high interest readers is not always easy. Non-fiction is definitely a favorite genre in my classroom. I would love to have a wonderful collection of great titles for my students to read. My students would learn the characteristics of non-fiction books (Table of Contents, Glossary, labeled diagrams, real pictures, facts) and then dive into writing their own non-fiction books. I can't wait to see what they can create and write.
