Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My class has 24 unique and diverse second grade students.
I teach in a school with a program that serves 100% free breakfast and lunch due to the poverty level in the community. Many of my students face obstacles most adults will not face in their lifetimes. Despite these difficulties, my students come to school every day excited and ready to learn. I do everything I can to foster a love of reading and learning during the school day, because most of my students do not have the support at home.
My Project
My students need three copies of 13 non-fiction book titles, such as Are You a Spider? and Zoo, to learn by doing their own research. The books I have requested will be the center of our next unit: Learning Through Research! My students will be reading non-fiction books, working on their comprehension strategies. We will be using these texts to increase vocabulary, phonics and fluency. We will also use these books as mentor texts to improve our writing. Students will be practicing their oral language and presentation skills when they present their research. The skills students learning during this unit are value skills my students will use for the rest of their lives. I hope that by introducing these non-fiction books to students, they will want to read even more non-fiction books!
Your donation will help me in continuing to create a positive learning and reading environment for my students in my classroom.
Having access to a variety of books in our classroom would create the opportunity for students of all different abilities and interests to find that perfect fit they can dive into at school and home.
