Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Earlier today in a small school in Texas, 3 and 4 year old children with disabilities were heard to exclaim, "We need more fun work to do in our class!"
Yes, it is true, folks. The children have so much fun in their PPCD classroom that they want more and more to do. Tired of playing with old toys from the 1960's and 70's, and tired of getting hand-me-downs and donations, the children declared that they would LOVE to have some new work challenges to do during their time they call "workshop", which is their work for 2 hours of their day for all 17 students.
Their teacher smiles. "They have so much fun doing puzzles and working with manipulatives that they don't even realize that they're building pre-writing skills, cognitive skills, social skills, and language skills. But lets let that be our little secret."
The activities that we need will help my students with their fine motor skills, learning colors, learn left to right progression, learn cause and effect, and work on their thinking skills. These skills are the basic foundation for all their other skills they will need for reading and writing. It is the foundation for literacy. With learning left to right, thinking skills, cause and effect, they will learn skills they need for reading. Strengthening their fine motor skills will help them learn to be better writers . My students need to be actively engaged in learning every moment they are in school. Having bright colors, new activities, and activities that just beg to be played with help keep my students engaged all day long.
The activities I am asking for will be part of our "workshop" time, which is about 2 hours of our day for all the students in my class.
