Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A year ago, my class started building our little classroom library, thanks to DonorsChoose and their awesome partners who contributed. We have a variety of books in different genres and ability levels; however, we need more books!!
My students are gifted students in first through fourth grade who LOVE to read!
With over 100 students and reading levels from beginning reader to high school level, and just as vast an interest level, we have outgrown our little library. For this reason, we are back, asking for help to add more books to our shelves. The first thing my students ask when they come in the door each week is, "Can we get more books?" They absolutely love to read.
My Project
When we built this little classroom library a year ago, most of my students read the same books over and over - Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Diary of a Wimpy Kid. But over time they have branched out and found new series and new authors. Roald Dahl, Terry Pratchett and Eoin Colfer - names they'd never heard before - suddenly became a name to look for on the cover. Lemony Snicket's (Brett Handler) Series of Unfortunate Events is a new found love for my third and fourth graders. Now we need new names and new series to learn - Ray Bradbury and Jean Fritz; Cam Jansen and Encyclopedia Brown. Just a few of the authors and titles we are asking for our library.
