Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember reading and reading through different leveled books and when you finally get to the level you've been working toward, there aren't any books in the classroom library?
My kindergarten, first and second grade special needs class is located in a high poverty area.
This area was affected by Hurricane Sandy in October. Many of my students are learning disabled and have been learning new strategies to help them improve their reading. This year, the reading levels of my students are getting higher and higher and there aren't books on higher levels in the classroom. They are interested in reading chapter books for the first time this year.
My Project
With new higher leveled guided reading books and favorite character series, my students are capable of reading on grade level for the first time! These books will meet the needs of students on the cusp of these new levels and will motivate readers on lower levels to challenge themselves academically to reach these higher levels.
The gift of reading lasts a lifetime.
Donating to this project will develop life long readers. You have the ability to place a new book in the hands of a child and change their future.
