Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are curious, passionate, dedicated learners in the third grade. Our academy's goal is to provide a safe and emotionally secure learning environment. In addition, we focus on real-world skills, problem-solving, and how to be a good citizen.

My scholars are a creative and innovative group; my goal is to help them realize their potential by cultivating academic excellence and recognizing their individual strengths.

I am also working this year to incorporate more opportunities for project-based learning and cross-curricular learning. Project-based learning allows students to use their strengths and interests to explore complex, engaging questions.

My Project

Winter is already upon us her in the Mitten State! It is not uncommon for us to have accumulated snow by the first of November, and many years we can have snow for six months or more. Because our school is so close to the Great Lakes, we receive even more snow due to ‘lake effect’ snowstorms.

With 100 or more inches of snow likely in a single season, proper winter gear is essential during recess and at the bus stop.

Unfortunately, students without winter gear usually end up staying indoors for recess simply because it is so cold and snowy outside. With this project, I hope to be able to provide each of my students with a warm winter hat and a pair of mittens/ gloves to use this season. Any extras will go into our ‘care closet’ for students who forget their gear, need an extra if theirs is still wet, or need to borrow gear while theirs is in the wash.
