My Students
Second graders are amazing! These students go through quite a metamorphosis. They begin the year as burgeoning readers, budding mathematicians, and blossoming scientists. Throughout their journey in second grade, they bloom into experienced students ready to take on the world!
My new second grade scholars this year are ready for an exciting adventure in learning!
These are students with a variety of social, emotional, and academic needs and come from diverse backgrounds with many new English Language Learners. Providing a common, inviting, and safe area for everyone to grow together is my highest priority!
My Project
A classroom library should be a place where students have books that are MIRRORS - where they can see themselves and their culture reflected in the pages. It should also be a place where students have books that are WINDOWS - where they can learn about the world around them.
My students come from places all over the world - Portugal, Iran, Egypt, and Chile to just name a few!
It is important to me that I provide books that reflect their own cultures as well as provide windows into the other cultures that surround them every day in our school and classroom. Some of the books on our wishlist include "A Big Mooncake for Little Star," "Deep in the Sahara," and "The Day You Begin." These and the others have characters who are reflections of the students in our classroom. Many of the books take place in the countries where our friends were born and lived before coming to America.
