Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic and amazing kids from the southside of Chicago. Most of the kids I teach are faced with challenges in their lives, both at home and at school. As their music teacher, I hope to help my students by encouraging them to express themselves in positive ways.
My students love music class because they get a chance to share a creative experience with their peers.
Our school is run on a bare bones budget, and funding for the arts is just not there. Your donation would help to provide a quality musical experience for deserving students.
My Project
Band programs are rare in this part of the city, and our school is really lucky to have one. The kids and I are really excited to be building a band from the ground up, and they are practicing hard! Our band does not have a tuba or baritone horn, and we could use your help to add one to our group.
A low brass instrument would add depth and strength to our concert and marching band.
My students are begging to play the tuba. Tuba is a huge part of the musical culture of Mexico. A baritone horn would be a perfect fit for these elementary school band students who are excited about low brass, and would teach them the skills they need to participate in music making for life.
