We Need Letter Tiles to Build Words!

My students need individual sets of letter tiles to use when building words, as well as plastic containers with lids that will ensure no letters get lost.

My Students

Our school is in a low-income area with a 78% poverty level. It is a city school with approximately 20 to 22 students in each classroom with one teacher. We are in Ohio, with many unemployed families in the neighborhood who are dependent on forms of government support. Still, we have been rated an excellent school district. I teach a group of 14 kindergartners that vary in race, ethnicity, personality, and learning needs. However, all 14 of my students are excited to learn and love school.

My Project

The students in my kindergarten classroom need an individual set of letter tiles to use for word building. During phonics, sight word, literacy, and guided reading lessons, students are constantly working with letters. These letters are used to begin memorizing the letter names, and then gradually moving to building words.

Currently, I have a set of classroom magnetic letters that are being shared with all students.

However, we do not have enough letters for all of the kids to have enough letters to build the words with which we are working. Your donation will provide an individual set of letter tiles, ensuring that every child is able to have one of each letter, making it engaging and exciting for students to build words.

Also, I have requested a plastic box with lid for each letter tile set. Students will store their tiles in the boxes when they are not being used, so the letters are not easily lost and will last for many years to come.
