Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a school in Florida that took a direct hit by Hurricane Irma. We are a STEM-based charter school with 74% free or reduced-price lunches. Recently, Hurricane Irma caused roof damage to many of our classrooms as well as my students homes. Many of my students' families were out of work for more than two weeks which has also put a big strain on them financially.

My Project
My students need iPad minis and protective cases for them! With iPads in our classroom, we will be able to move our students around the room where they can work comfortably and independently. My students will be able to access apps that reinforce skills and enable higher level learning. An iPad helps students who are kinesthetic and visual learners open up the doors of education and individualize their learning experiences. The iPad will become a tool that will help create more authentic learning experiences in the classroom as well as build 21st Century skills that our children need in order to be successful in a quickly evolving technical world. My students will be able to work in centers with the iPads, writing, reading, learning phonemic awareness skills, STEM projects, and working with math manipulatives and more. They will be able to create both independent and collaborative projects in order to show true understanding of concepts.
iPads are integral and amazing tools that should be present in every classroom, so please help us get ours back in the classroom.
Without consistent access to technology, my students are not able to access 21st century skills. I believe that they should not be held back because of lack of funds, but deserve to explore and learn on the same level as students who have this access. Our classroom will be forever changed by the addition of these iPads. All students will be able to access learning through technology on a daily basis and that amazing!
