Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach children with mild to moderate learning disabilities in a high-poverty school where all of our students receive free breakfast, healthy snacks, and lunch. Through no actions of their own, these kids have been dealt a hand that will make their school careers more challenging than for some children, in more ways than one.

The challenges that some of our students may face are a lack of resources, such as transportation, or other economic hardships that may result in their family becoming homeless.

Families in this situation may have to live with relatives or friends. Our students who find themselves in this situation are guaranteed attendance at our school, even being provided with bus fare so that they can make it to school daily, no matter where they are staying.

Our school is filled with hardworking, dedicated teachers and staff who meet the challenges of working with an at-risk population on a daily basis. We work very hard at creating a sense of community for our children, their parents, and of course the staff of our school. Thank you for your support in this endeavor!

My Project

This past year has been a rollercoaster for everyone. Now we are facing a new challenge with more than triple the rate of infection with the newest COVID-19 variant: the looming return to simultaneous teaching. Simultaneous teaching is where we teach our remote students and in-person students at the same time.

With this new way of teaching, I need some tech upgrades to successfully teach my students.

We recently received an iPad Pro to help with demonstrating how to write, solve math problems, annotate text, and more to both my in-person and remote students. The requested Magic Keyboard will be used to enable students to interact via keyboard in addition to the touchscreen when needed, as well as the Apple Pencil being used as an alternative input tool. Thank you!
