My Students
"Take a picture of meeeee!" my students say all the time. So I do! Pictures of them playing, working, learning, etc. But after I take the picture, it gets trapped inside my camera never to be seen again. My dream is to make these pictures come to life with ink and photo paper!
I teach first grade at a charter school located in a high poverty, high crime neighborhood in New York City.
More than 85% of the students in my school qualify for free lunch. My students are some of the smartest, most thoughtful and most caring human beings I have ever met. My first graders are curious, motivated and love learning. I am passionate about creating a classroom community where all children have equal opportunities to learn and this means having access to the best materials possible.
My Project
For my birthday 5 years ago, my mom gave me a digital camera and a photo printer (thanks mom). Little did she know that the following year I would bring both into my classroom and use them with my kids! Unfortunately, she was unable to give me a lifetime supply of photo paper and ink so I have had to purchase these on my own for the past 4 years. Now I am turning to you all for help!
I am requesting ink and photo paper so that I can print the pictures I take of my children. I would like to hang them up so students can see pictures of themselves learning and being successful in the classroom. It will make kids feel proud and motivated to see themselves on our wall. I would also like to be able to use the pictures to make labels for materials in the classroom, as well as create learning games for my kids. At the end of the year, I would like to print pictures to send home with students' families, this way their first grade memories can be saved and shared forever!
I want to be able to capture the birthdays, the block buildings, the field trips, the first published writing piece, reading with our Reading Buddies.
I want my children to remember the experiences they have had and the personal achievements they have made. The materials I have requested will make our first grade memories come to life and last a lifetime!
