My students need blue, black and reds pens, highlighters, dry erase markers, a pencil sharpener and a pencil pouch to help them stay organized and prepared for class.
Have you ever watched a student trying to find something in the black hole they call a backpack? My students will tell me often they can't find their materials in their backpack! Help them become organized!
I teach in an area where many families have been hit hard economically in the past few years.
Many families continue to struggle to provide basic school supplies for their students. Organizational skills play a large part in students becoming successful in school and into adulthood. Our school community strives to provide all of our students with positive opportunities for all.
I teach 7th grade pre-algebra and intensive pre-algebra which are both at grade level and below in addition to Algebra I. Many of my students struggle with understanding abstract concepts that are important to master before entering an Algebra I class such as adding and subtracting integers, multiplying and dividing integers, solving one, two and multi-step equations and factoring.
My Project
I am requesting materials that will teach my students organizational skills needed to be successful during the upcoming school year. My students need the necessary writing instruments to be prepared and organized with their school work. Many times students simply stuffed their pencils and pens into the dark endless hole called a backpack. Once this happens it will never be found again!
The pens, pencils, highlighters and pencil pouches will give the students a place to keep all of their materials so they do not get lost. In addition, I will be doing mini-lessons on organization tips and checking binders weekly to ensure that students are following through with the binders.
Organizing is a skill that takes years to master!
It is a skill that is vital to all students. It is also a skill that does not come easily for many and needs monitoring and reminders. These materials will give my students a good start to being organized for life!
