We Need Help Sharpening Our Skills with Sharp Pencils!!
My students need a reliable pencil sharpener and some pencils to be proud of using. And everyone makes mistakes, why not have an extra eraser for those extra oopsies?!??
It is frustrating, as a teacher, to see any student come to school without the necessities. I see it every day, we have scores of students whose parents can't afford to provide them with the basics, such as pencils. I would like to be able to give them at least a pencil.
Our students come from a very poor urban area of Indiana.
Our school is 100 % free lunch because our poverty level is so high. Our students have learned to survive with the very least. I come to work and try to provide the students with a safe and controlled learning environment. Many of our students want to do well and learn while they are here, but distractions such as not having basic supplies hinders that learning. I would love to provide them with anything I can.
I am asking for the basics, we need a good and reliable pencil sharpener instead of the one that was installed when our school was built in the 1960s. We need pencils too, it's difficult to do good quality work without the bare necessities such as a sharpened pencil and sufficient eraser. Our students will be proud to use a new pencil and have a sharpener that they don't have to manually propel!
A pencil, eraser, and a sharpener may not seem like much.
But to our kiddos who don't have even that, it would seem like someone really cares that they have a writing utensil that can make them feel like a super student!!!!
