This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
School supplies have become less of a priority, and asking students to go out and buy supplies is even more difficult. That being said, it's apparent that they have the desire to learn something new, but just don't have the right tools to make it happen.
Directly in the center of a major city, surrounded by noisy streets and busy vendors, you can find our high school.
Inside, 100 seniors are working relentlessly to meet all of their graduation requirements. Our school caters to students in grades 7-12 and has recently began to offer electives. I have numerous students working with me as part of the Special Education program. We have organized the students schedules to integrate with the other students, but have limited supplies for any of them, especially for literacy. For this reason, I am desperately trying to secure supplies for them so they are better prepared for instruction.
My Project
We have created a curriculum that is not only challenging, but inspiring. I want to leave my students with an understanding of literature, history, and math so they are better prepared for the paths they choose to follow after graduation. With these basic supplies of paper, pencils and pens, I can ensure that my students are prepared for their classes and we can avoid an obstacle in their way of succeeding.
Many of my students will not vocalize their inability to purchase supplies for themselves, so it becomes easier for them to simply not complete the work.
I want to avoid this and increase the level of motivation within my students. With your contribution, you can make this happen.
