My students come from diverse backgrounds and it is so important to have a classroom library that reflects that. Our district motto is “Every Child, Every Day.” I want every child to find success and feel like they can be perfectly themselves in my classroom environment. In order to do that, I want to provide a classroom library that is representative of every child in my classroom. They should see themselves in the pages of the books they are reading. Please help me put more books featuring diverse characters in the hands of my amazing students!
My Project
This project will help provide my students with a classroom library that lets them engage and connect with the books they are reading. It will show every student that they are important and provide literature that honors and reflects their lives and cultures. When students connect with what they are reading, they want to keep reading!
This project will provide my students literature that gives them mirrors and windows- the ability to see themselves reflected in texts, as well as the opportunity to read texts that serve as windows into the worlds of others.
As my students discover the world around them and learn about their place in that world, diverse texts provide an opportunity to shape students into informed citizens who see that their own narrative and the narratives of others matter.
