Malala Yousafzai said that one child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world. My students are ready to change the world. They know strong literacy skills are necessary to make change. My 8th graders are strong, smart, passionate, driven individuals. They are driven to learn more about the world and use their voices to make our world a better place. They are voracious readers, but they do not have access to a wide variety of books. They know the world is a diverse place, and they want to read about those places and people. In order to provide my students with more diverse books, I need help buying those books.
My Project
The donations to this project will help improve my students reading, writing, and speaking skills. With these books, my students will be able to choose from diverse literature that will allow them to learn about and connect with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. These books will not only grow their literacy skills, but their empathy. They will see themselves in the books they read. These books will serve as mentor texts that will model great writing and help my students grow their writing skills. My students need these books in the classroom to have immediate access to quality young adult literature.
