This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
GROSS! You touched that with your hands?!?!
Unfortunately, many of our students say these types of things when they attempt to dissect materials in class. Most of our supplies are either rusty, broken, or simply missing.
I teach at an urban school in Missouri.
Many of my students have not had the opportunity to dissect real specimens in school. For the ones who have been lucky enough to do dissections before they arrive to my class, their experiences are typically not as fulfilling as they should be. In my opinion, this is primarily due to a lack of resources provided through the schools.
My Project
If I receive these dissection pans and kits, my students will have all the tools that are necessary for them to have a fulfilling, scientific investigation of mammalian anatomy. Right now, we do not have enough scalpels for students to dissect in groups, and we have no probes, pins, or dissecting scissors.
In the short term, your donations will help give my students the necessary resources to have a truly life changing scientific experience.
In the long run, your donations will help build a lasting supply of dissection materials for our entire science department to utilize, impacting future waves of students.
