Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a working class neighborhood in Los Angeles county. It is a multicultural, diverse area. Many of the parents do not speak English. It is a challenge for many parents to put food on the table, especially in the current economy. Many parents do not have the time, resources, education, or language skills to assist their children in the learning process. Although they want their children to succeed, the means to that end are not always readily available. The students are kind, inquisitive, and bright, and excited about learning!
My Project
The 2019 8th grade graduation/culmination ceremony is just around the corner!
Our 8th grade graduation/culmination ceremony is the special way in which we celebrate and honor our students as they embark on the next chapter in their lives.
Many of our students have attended our community school since pre-kindergarten!
Per district guidelines, we can no longer accept payments from students/families to purchase culmination gowns for this event. This project will enable us to have a set of gowns, in various sizes, to loan out to students each year for the ceremony. At the end of the ceremony, we will collect, clean, and store the gowns for next year’s culminating class.
