We Need Computers in our Classroom to STAY Competitive!!
Help me give my students working technology to use in our classroom today.
I love my students!! I am the Mathematics Interventionist at a HS in CT. My day consists of working with struggling learners AND the most gifted to help ALL of them attain their highest learning potential & plan for a bright future. **This year I am working with 2 groups of 9th grade students in an Hon Alg I class, & an ACE(Academic Choice For Excellence) SAT Preparation course, an ACE Precalc class of juniors and an AP/UConn Stats of seniors. **My AP/UConn Stats students are using a program called WebAssign to practice problems from our lessons. They love the interactive website & the immediate feedback. **Even the students in my study hall who want to improve skills and increase their chances to go to college, need to use a computer to use web based resources such as Khan Academy - but our classroom technology carts were removed for repairs indefinitely. We have to leave our classroom and find a lab or other place to meet every time we want to use a computer. It's frustrating.
For Christmas my precalc students bought me a Best Teacher Ever hoodie!
They know I'll do anything for them! So, here I am!!!
I have encouraged my (and ALL) students to use technology to improve math and reading skills by using websites such as Khan Academy both in and out of the classroom. I have made it my personal goal to teach even my youngest students how to research career options and begin to think about the future NOW. We look at college websites and discuss majors/minors, master's degrees & beyond. I have taught them how to prepare for/take practice SAT and other placement tests and showed them different platforms for online learning. We are losing valuable momentum, time and resources since our computers have been removed indefinitely for repairs. I'm trying to make a difference, one classroom at a time.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
