My Students

My students are entering a time in their lives in which they are finding out who they are morally, educationally, and socially. This leads them to be both curious and creative as they learn to navigate through their middle school years. They are hard-working and resilient, especially through this pandemic.

Though my students attend a small-town country school, their home lives and backgrounds vary immensely.

A large portion is considered low-income, qualifying for the free/reduced lunch program. Many families are not able to afford the resources, or technology, that is quickly becoming a staple in education.

My Project

My seventh grade classroom is just like every other classroom in America: it needs Chromebooks. The whole world revolves around technology and my students should be able to have access. They need daily practice on features such as Google Classroom, Docs, and Gmail so they are confident in their abilities should they need to move to a distance or virtual learning situation again.

The pandemic has caused my students to be unsure of themselves, to stress and worry about unforeseen circumstances.

Those that have had to quarantine, and thus move to distance learning, struggle to navigate the programs and tools because they are not able to access them daily. Most of my students are not visual-only learners, they need hands on experience, which is impossible to provide without Chromebooks.
