My students need 2 copies each of 14 high-interest higher level books for their independent reading time, including the Captain Underpants and Ricky Ricotta series.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Some kids automatically love to read, but most need to find that one book that really gets them hooked - for my kids, it's Captain Underpants!
My students are some of the most vulnerable kids in Boston - almost all of them qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and many come from families with histories of drug use and incarceration.
Yet they come to school each day smiling and ready to learn!
My Project
Our classroom has two copies each of Captain Underpants and Ricky Ricotta books, high-interest comic book-style chapter books, and my kids can't get enough of them. They're funny and goofy, and they've gotten my least-enthusiastic readers excited about reading. If my kids had the complete series, think of how much they would read!
These books will light the spark of reading in my students!
