Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have an amazing group of students who are so eager to learn and grow as readers and writers this year! The students at my school have been historically underserved within the Oklahoma City community and I am asking for your help. My students need access to great literature!
As high schoolers, they are expected to graduate at a college-ready level, yet many students have had poor relationships with reading.
My goal is to continue to help cultivate their love of lifelong reading, while simultaneously building their confidence in their reading and writing abilities.
My Project
Currently, we have many books in our classroom library, but little space to store them. The materials that I have requested will help continue build our library. The bookshelves will give us the necessary tools to have a highly functional and organized space. I organize the books into high-interest genre bins. By allowing students to select books that interest them, they are more invested in reading.
Overall, my goal is to build a library that is reflective and responsive to my student's unique needs and experiences!
By having the space and materials to build a classroom library, you will be directly contributing to my student's literacy goals. Thank you so much for your support!
